Disabled golfer Mike Browne claimed his third Tournament of the year after destroying the field at the EDGA Grand Prix Handigolf de Dunkerque to win by 10 shots.
Played in ideal conditions at the Bluegreen Golf Course, Dunkirk, Browne shot a first round five under to lead the field at the end of the first days play and followed it with a one under round to leave him well clear.
“I thought it might be my tournament after I drove the green on the second and holed a 45 putt for eagle. That took me to 3 under after two holes and the rest of the round was much the same.
For the second round I concentrated on keeping the mistakes to a minimum and letting the rest of the field chase my score. In the end it proved to be the right strategy.”
In May Browne, who had his left leg amputated above the knee six years ago, won the 21st Canon South African Disabled Golf Open for the second time in succession and followed it up with a win at the Czech Disabled Golf Masters I June.
Sponsored by YUMAX Golf brands – Skechers Go Golf shoes and Bushnell Golf – Mike competed in the first ever EDGA Scottish Open, played alongside the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open in July.
YUMAX Dir Roger Wolfe commented: ”Mike has a great story. Overcoming a career wrecking injury to become a pro golfer at the very top of this game, all in just a few short years.
We’re delighted to sponsor Mike and are proud of all that he has achieved, he is proof that no matter what we face in life there is always a way through.”
Mike currently lies in 4th place in the Disabled Golf World Rankings.
