Nike apparel collection a tribute to The Open

Nike has released the latest edition of the Nike Golf Club Collection, said to be a tribute to golf’s heritage, in time for The Open Championship. Designed for on-course performance and off-course casual wear, Nike says the collection celebrates the game’s journey with a worn, weathered look, inspired by the St Andrews links. The ever-present elements at the historic course, especially wind and rain, lend to the garments washed appearance.

That theme is most evident on the four T-shirt graphics from the collection. Each shirt emphasises the harsh conditions with a washed and muted aesthetic. The ‘Every Damn Bunker’ T-shirt honours the sand hazards that notoriously disrupt the game of even the world’s best players, while the ‘Swinging Blind’ T-shirt refers to the St Andrews hotel that obstructs the fairway view from the 17th tee box.

Each piece of the collection takes from a palette of primary colours that are reminiscent of the major championship. The Tipped Novelty Polo, available in gym red, white (pictured), and midnight navy, is a classic polyester polo with a knit rib collar and cuff. Available in those colours as well as university gold, is the Washed Short.

The AW77 FT Crew and Windrunner are styles borrowed from Nike Sportswear while adding a washed, weathered look to the classic Nike silhouettes. Other products in the Nike Golf Club Collection include the True Cap and Lunar Mont Royal Premium in a limited edition colour. There are also Nike RZN Black golf balls with logos reflective of the third major championship of the year, as well as a blue putter cover included in this collection. More at: www.nike.com
