Hastings battles for Help for Heroes at La Manga

Gavin Hastings, the former Scotland and British Lions rugby union captain, heads a list of star names from the rugby world who will gather at Spain’s La Manga Club next month to take part in the 2014 QBE Golf Classic in support of Help for Heroes. Hastings won 61 caps for his country and six for the Lions and makes his debut in the event taking place from 14 to 18 May. The QBE Golf Classic is organised by Rugby’s Golf Club with QBE, business insurance specialists and an official partner of England and Premiership Rugby.

Hastings plays off a handicap of five and faces competition from a field that includes England 2003 World Cup winner Mark Regan, hoping to make it third time lucky in the 54-hole Stableford event after finishing runner-up the last two years. He is joined in the line-up by fellow former England internationals Matt Perry, Shaun Perry and David Trick.

The QBE Golf Classic features three days of competitive golf in a Stableford team format on La Manga Club’s South and North courses, with competitors playing in teams of three alongside a different rugby celebrity each day.

Packages cost £3,499 for a team of three people and include four nights in the five-star Hotel La Manga Club Principe Felipe. Non-golfing partners are also welcome to attend and can enjoy all the festivities for just £599 and all packages include a donation to the Help for Heroes charity.
