American Golf manager wins in Algarve

American Golf store manager, Mike Harrington, won the Grand Final of the Nike MatchPlay Championship recently at Vale do Lobo Golf Club, Portugal. The event, which is now in its nineteenth year, is a yearlong competition which is contested by hundreds of amateur golfers across the UK. The competitors play four rounds of knock out MatchPlay in their region between June and September and the winners from each region qualify for one of the eight regional finals in October.

From the eight regional finals 44 competitors won the prize of a place at the Grand Final. Mike and playing partner Andy’s prize included return flights, hire car, five nights luxury accommodation, five rounds of golf as well as being crowned National Champions.

Harrington, manager of AG’s Stoke branch commented, “The event in Vale do Lobo felt like a professional tournament. The accommodation, golf courses, setting, and staff were second to none and the competition was just as hot! I can’t wait to try and defend my title with Andy next year.”
